Barbara Cotton
President
President and co-owner, Barbara Cotton, began her career in the environmental industry in New York/New Jersey working with large manufacturers and corporations to responsibly handle their hazardous waste. After moving to Florida in 1997 she began working with Biomedical waste exclusively, working closely with physicians and hospitals throughout Florida and Georgia. She became an authorized OSHA trainer as well, allowing her to provide Bloodborne Pathogens training to that same demographic. During that time Barbara built a reputation for honesty, integrity, and a superior level of customer service within the healthcare industry. She brings that same commitment to FSMR. Her drive for excellence coupled with her detail-oriented nature allow her to direct day-to-day operations at FSMR. A stickler for compliance, she strictly adheres to the regulations set forth by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and Florida Statutes, not only pertaining to medical billing companies, but Provider responsibilities and Insurance company responsibilities as well. Her passionate advocacy for the providers and medical offices that FSMR services is unapparelled.
A woman entrepreneur, Barbara started FSMR, her second company, in 2006. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Safety Engineering.
Rick Cotton
Vice President
Vice President and co-owner, Rick Cotton, spent more than 28 successful years in management positions within the Office Technology Industry prior to joining FSMR in 2009.
Holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Rick is the numbers guy, or as he likes to call it, “the money guy”. His team works hard to ensure our clients are getting every dollar they have earned, making sure claims are submitted correctly and going after denied and underpaid claims. As a claims specialist he capably resolves very complex denials. His many responsibilities include FSMR financials, invoicing, credentialing, hospital billing, billing follow up and claims reconciliation.
Shannon Scalise
Office Manager
Shannon is a certified medical coder with over 15 years experience in the healthcare industry. Joining FSMR in 2021, she previously worked at medical practices of varied specialties including Chiropractic and Oncology. In addition to her vast knowledge of the medical billing and coding process and working with insurance companies, she brings a unique perspective and understanding of the intricacies of managing medical practices and the challenges they face daily, which has proven to be an added benefit when working with FSMR accounts. Shannon understands the medical billing puzzle, from eligibility verification to claims reconciliation and every piece in between!
